The Affairs of Cellini (1934)

Directed by Gregory La Cava

Art and romance flourish in scurrilous 16th-century Florence, as roguish Renaissance artist Benvenuto Cellini (March) romances the Duchess of Florence under the nose of the corrupt Duke, himself a faithless husband. LaCava Steers steers a superb cast through this frothy costume pageant, taking special delight in detailing the peccadilloes of the powerful.

20th Century Pictures, Inc. Producer: Darryl F. Zanuck. Screenwriter: Bess Meredyth. Based on a play by Edwin Justus Mayer. Cinematographer: Charles Rosher. Editor: Barbara McLean. Cast: Constance Bennett, Fredric March, Frank Morgan, Fay Wray, Vince Barnett.

35mm, b/w, 80 min.
