This rare print preserves audio that has been lost in modern editions of the film. Directed by the legendary Li Han-hsiang of Shaw Brothers fame, Rear Entrance tells the moving story of a childless woman (played by the extraordinary silent-to-sound era actress Butterfly Woo) who adopts a neglected young girl (the future teen idol of the girl group Four Golden Flowers) in their back-alley neighborhood. Upon its release, the film received critical acclaim, winning Best Film at the 7th Asian Film Festival (1960).—guest programmer Janet Louie
