“Altman has made a dozen films that can be called great ... but one of them is perfect, and that one is McCabe & Mrs. Miller.” -- Roger Ebert
Directed by Robert Altman.
Wandering gambler and sharpshooter McCabe (Warren Beatty) decamps in a western mining town, opening a successful brothel in partnership with English prostitute Constance Miller. When business rivals try to buy McCabe out, or run him out, doom seems almost as certain and unrelenting as the falling snow. Ravishing cinematography and the music of Leonard Cohen render the film an exquisitely heady take on mortality and the passage of earthly glory.
