guest programmer Janet Louie, Ph.D. candidate, Harvard University, will give a brief talk about the history of the Sing Lee Theatre before the screening. Q&A with Louie, Head of Collection Services Staci Hogsett and Circulation Coordinator Diana Cardenas.

Admission is free. No advance reservations. Your seat will be assigned to you when you pick up your ticket at the box office. Seats are assigned on a first come, first served basis. The box office opens one hour before the event.

This rare print preserves audio that has been lost in modern editions of the film. Directed by the legendary Li Han-hsiang of Shaw Brothers fame, Rear Entrance tells the moving story of a childless woman (played by the extraordinary silent-to-sound era actress Butterfly Woo) who adopts a neglected young girl (the future teen idol of the girl group Four Golden Flowers) in their back-alley neighborhood. Upon its release, the film received critical acclaim, winning Best Film at the 7th Asian Film Festival (1960).—guest programmer Janet Louie
