In-person:
Q&A with filmmaker Asghar Farhadi.

Unfortunately, our in-person screening of A Hero and conversation with Asghar Farhadi has been canceled. We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding as we plan for a safer start to 2022.

A Hero

2021

The Archive is thrilled to welcome back to the Billy Wilder Theater Academy Award-winning writer-director Asghar Farhadi for a special screening of his Cannes Grand Prix-winner, A Hero (2021). Serving time in prison for an unpaid, private debt, Rahim (Amir Jadidi) is released on a two-day leave to negotiate a resolution with his creditor with the help of his fiancée. Their plan to get Rahim out from under, however, begins to unravel almost immediately and in an excruciatingly public manner. In his inimitable fashion, and shooting again in Iran after his Spain-set Everybody Knows (2018), Farhadi weaves the contradictory social, legal and cultural forces of Iranian society—here amplified by the effects of social media—into nail-biting suspense through the twists and turns of one man’s moral dilemma. Iran’s official entry to the Academy Awards for Best International Feature, A Hero finds Farhadi working at the top of his game.

DCP, color, in Persian with English subtitles, 127 min. Director: Asghar Farhadi. Screenwriter: Asghar Farhadi. With: Amir Jadidi, Fereshteh Sadre Orafaiy, Mohsen Tanabandeh.
