Heathers  (1989)

The militantly stratified social life of Westerburg High makes The Breakfast Club look like a friendly Sunday brunch thanks to the ferociously snobbish clique of Heathers who patrol its halls. When one of their own, actually, a Veronica (Winona Ryder), joins up with the brooding, cool new kid in school (Christian Slater) to challenge their reign of scrunchy terror, these rebels without a cause inadvertently spark a nationwide Kumbaya moment that may be even worse. Now a cult classic, this late-breaking, ironic antidote to John Hughes closed out the 1980s with a bang.

DCP, color, 102 min. Director: Michael Lehmann. Screenwriter: Daniel Waters. Cast: Winona Ryder, Christian Slater, Shannen Doherty, Lisanne Falk.
