A League of Their Own  (1992)

With its sports heroes off fighting the Nazis, 1940s wartime America attempts to keep its national pastime alive with the creation the All-American Girls Baseball League.  Based on the true story of the AAGPBL, A League of Their Own boasts an all-star cast (Geena Davis, Rosie O’Donnell, Madonna) who “trade their oven mitts for baseball mitts” and take the field in solidarity for their country—and for their love of the game.  Initially a laughing stock thanks to their perceived inability to play—no thanks to their ne’er-do-well, lush of a coach (Tom Hanks)—the Rockford Peaches, and the League, eventually gain towering admiration in the eyes of the nation.
