Directed by Richard Fleischer
Adapted from Ring Lardner’s acerbic novel “The Big Town,” producer Stanley Kramer’s first feature as producer follows the provincial family of Ernie Finch (radio comic Henry Morgan), flush with inherited money, as they barnstorm New York seeking a wealthy husband for Finch’s sister-in-law. A catalog of human foibles and eccentrics, the film was an important early triumph for its young, independent producer.
