Title:

"National Association of Black Social Workers conference"

Date:
April 7, 1974

Synopsis

Reporter Dick Garten covers the sixth annual conference of the National Association of Black Social Workers (NABSW) held at the Los Angeles Biltmore Hotel. The organization was formed in 1968 as a means for Black social workers across America to have a voice in topics that affect the lives of the people they serve. Garten interviews NABSW Los Angeles representative James Cox who discusses the goal of making the delivery of human services more beneficial to the people receiving those services. Cox also speaks about the need to move beyond initiatives that only allow people to survive but rather enhance services to provide meaningful development of Black communities. Cox further states that although the work of the NABSW is focused on Black communities, any improvements they are able to bring to social services will impact people in need regardless of their ethnicities.
