Title:

"NAACP representative opposes Proposition 1"

Date:
October 18, 1979

Synopsis

In a press conference at the Greater LA Press Club, Virna Canson, Western Regional Director of the NAACP, voices opposition to anti-busing initiative Proposition 1 on the grounds it would take control of local schools away from local agencies. Canson further details an example in Stockton, California, where busing succeeded and argues such gains would be lost under Proposition 1. Clip contains some silent shots of the press conference, including shots of reporter Mike Botula.

Note: The KTLA newsfilm collection at UCLA consists of cut and unedited stories, outtakes and fill footage, originally shot on 16mm reversal film stock with magnetic soundtrack. Some footage, particularly material not used for broadcast, may be without sound.
