Title:

"Financial crisis and teachers strike in Compton Unified School District"

Date:
December 6, 1973

Synopsis

Material appears to be coverage of a School Board meeting for the Compton Unified School District addressing concerns related to the district's dwindling funds. Parents, and possibly a teacher, address the school board and ask questions covering topics ranging from diplomas to the possibility of obtaining state funds for the district. Superintendent Curtis H. Kennedy responds to the questions, and also addresses the attendees about the situation. Additionally, Thomas Brown of the California Teachers Association talks about the district's negotiations with the teachers on strike. Footage includes silent shots of teachers on strike carrying signs outside the Compton Unified School District Administrative Offices.

Note: The KTLA newsfilm collection at UCLA consists of cut and unedited stories, outtakes and fill footage, originally shot on 16mm reversal film stock with magnetic soundtrack. Some footage, particularly material not used for broadcast, may be without sound.
