Directed by Budd Boetticher
Boetticher’s semi-autobiographical depiction of his days as an American bullfighter in Mexico was a major turning point. Produced by John Wayne, the independent production was Boetticher’s first personal project (he marked the occasion by changing his on screen credit from Oscar Boetticher, Jr to Budd Boetticher) and it fully reveals his passionate command of the medium. Long thought lost, this director’s cut version was restored by UCLA Film & Television Archive in 1987.
